Working with drawing, puppets, sculpture, animation and performance, Maya's work is predominantly focused on developing methodologies and practices of collaboration. She is consistently interested in how memory is constructed, how it’s sometimes erased and rewritten.  Visceral and collective memory, memory that has been silently passed down through generations, amnesia (non-memory) are central to her work.

Maya is the co-founder of Media Undefined, a non-profit organization that produces community-engaged media. She is also the founder of Pandemonium a secret exchange and residency space in Istanbul, Turkey. She holds a BFA from the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver. Since making a short animated film at the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal in 2007 she has been living in Istanbul and Montreal. Most recently she has become a phantom of a Montreal based live animation duo called Mere Phantoms.
